The journey to get to where we are today started in 1991 when our firm first opened the doors under the name Linsco/Private Ledger in Neligh, Nebraska.  At that time, there were no clients, just a desire of our founder, Tom Farber, to help people find better investments.

The number of clients grew over the next 12 years until a second advisor, Ryan Furstenau, joined the firm in 2003.  The success Tom enjoyed was multiplied exponentially with the additional advisor and today's client list has grown significantly since 2003.  This growth afforded Tom the opportunity to hand over the reigns to Ryan with his retirement in 2005.  Since then, Ryan has continued to grow the business and is currently being assisted by Silver Sibert (Director of Operations), Jazmine Liester (Director of Marketing), and Shaina Stout (Operations Associate).

In 2007, we saw the need to go beyond investment advice and help our clients plan for the future.  We realized that we were doing great helping our clients save, invest, and grow their assets, but we hadn't done a very good job of helping our clients plan how they would use their investments in the future.  We needed to answer the questions: "How do you use your hard earned savings to retire, spend two months in Florida in the winter, pay for college, spend more time with the grandkids and continue working in the job you love part-time" and all other goals and dreams you might think of.

We realized that we needed to be asking better questions of our clients:
     1. How and when do you want to retire?  What do you want to do when you retire?
     2. Do you even want to retire or would you rather continue working in that job you love?
     3. How will you get there?
     4. Do you know exactly what happens if you or your spouse doesn't wake up tomorrow?
     5. Who do you want or need to educate?

All of these questions really lead to one thing:  What is your plan and how do you get there?

So, we took the first steps to molding the business to where it is today.  We started helping our clients articulate to us what their real hopes, dreams, and goals are.  It has been very enlightening for us and even more rewarding for our clients to finally have those dreams written down with a plan on how to get there.  Since 2007, ensuring our clients have a plan and are able to follow through with it year after year has been our focus.

Finally, in 2008, we decided it was time for the name of the business to more fully convey what we offer to and do for our clients. Today we are known as Furstenau Financial Management.  Our advisors are still affiliated with LPL Financial as we have been in the past, but our future and our client's future is now defined in our name, "Financial Management."

We are ready to write the next page in our story and we hope that you will become part of it.

We can and do help our clients with their investments, but our real asset is helping those clients plan for their future.  As a result, for those clients that qualify, we make certain that everything we do begins with a comprehensive financial, investment, and estate plan.  In short, financial planning.  Without it, we are just hoping and hope is not a plan.

Our approach has three Principles and three Practices.  They all apply to both our financial planning clients and our investment clients.

Three Principles
Faith, Patience, Discipline

Everything begins with Faith.  The future is bright and our nation and the world will continue to improve the goods and services we have been blessed with. We have faith in the future.

"I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here                  to there," and it will move.  Nothing will be impossible for you."   Matthew 17:20

As investors, we must be patient. We know that life will not always deal the hand we want dealt. So, in those times of uncertainty, we must exercise patience.

A patient investor must have discipline. We stay with the allocations we have set in place and resist the temptations to make revisions just for the sake of making changes or because of what we heard on the news today.

Three Practices
Allocation, Diversification, Rebalancing

Asset Allocation
The large majority of an investors return is driven by the percentage allocated to equities or debt. Our portfolios are setup to have an equity/debt allocation that has some potential of producing the returns our clients need.
(Asset allocation does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss and past performance is no guarantee of future results.)

We spread out among enough different investments to avoid major investment repercussions. One example of how our portfolios are diversified is that if we are investing in equities, we will not just own large companies in the United States. Instead we will probably own large, medium, and small companies in the United States as well as large, medium, and small companies that are based in foreign countries.
(There is no guarantee that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall returns or outperform a non-diversified portfolio.  Diversification does not ensure against market risk .)

There will be times when market conditions will skew our portfolios away from our original intended allocations.  So, one time each year our assets are rebalanced back to the original intended allocation.  This allows us to sell the securities that have gone up and buy back the securities that have gone down.  We are not timing the market, but simply rebalancing to our original portfolio goals.  Thus, we are selling high and buying low. (Rebalancing a portfolio may cause investors to incur tax liabilities and/or transaction costs and does not assure a profit or protect against a loss.)
